74% of UK businesses feel hiring has become harder in the past five years.
For many, it’s a chore. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
A good process can make hiring – not just growing the team – feel good for everyone.
Here are 5 signs of a great hiring process.
1. Your job ads catch the eye.
Nothing kills the ‘we’re going to grow the team’ buzz like posting a job ad and getting next to no interest. In our experience, the best and most effective are succinct, realistic and unique. A great ad is one that only be written by your company.
2. Hiring doesn’t take up too much of your time.
Whether it’s searching for, qualifying or interviewing candidates, it’s very easy to spend a lot of time on hiring. But a great process is an efficient one. A good agency that finds and qualifies suitable candidates is worth their weight in gold (even if I say so myself).
3. Candidates are engaged throughout the process.
Moving jobs is a big and often nervous decision. The uncertainty means candidates get spooked easily. It’s therefore important to maintain their interest from seeing the ad to day one in the new job. This means making it efficient for them as well as you and giving them a story they want to be part of.
4. You enjoy working with your agency partner(s).
I know the overriding sentiment towards agencies. Excessive-fees, speed over quality, poor treatment of candidates, rubbish communication. It’s easy to get it wrong when choosing a partner. But a good agency saves you time, money and energy. Not to mention being fun to work with.
5. New hires live up to expectations.
Going through the whole process only for your new hire to not deliver what you were expecting is frustrating to say the least. But with the right ad, effective qualification and interviews that consider values and culture alongside skill set, you can reduce the risk of it being a wasted exercise.
